Why Become A Christian?

If you are not a Christian, maybe it's because you don't believe that God exists. Or maybe you're just not sure if God exists or not. Or maybe you believe in a god, but not the Christian God.

So, why should you become a Christian?

To answer this question, the four short sections (below) contain the bookmarks that I make by hand and pass out to people to let them know what Christianity is all about, and to help them make a decision about their future.

Perhaps you feel that science has plenty of answers, so you have no need for God (I used to feel the same way!). Well, science works by evaluating the evidence, so if you are a supporter of science then at least be consistent and evaluate the evidence. As you read the next four sections, or over the next few days or weeks, listen to your heart deep down inside of you. That's where God will be gently drawing you to Jesus, and that's your evidence!

Where Will You Go?

Millions of people are dying, day after day, year after year. Where are they all going? Are they regretting the choices that they made on earth?

One day you too will be dead. You never know when it will happen! Then you will be on the other side of death with no chance to come back. Where will you go? Will you be in anguish because of the poor choices you made on earth?

We don't need to fear death because we can make certain that we will go to heaven!

The thing is, God will not allow everyone into heaven. Will He let you in? The problem is that you have committed sins such as lying, cheating, stealing, sexual sins, and so on. We know that we are all guilty of some of these things, and God won't allow any sin into heaven.

The Bible says that no-one is "good enough" to make it into heaven. No-one. We all need forgiveness so that we don't have any sins on our records.

The good news is that God has provided a way for you to be forgiven of your sins so that you can be allowed into heaven. Jesus is the Son of God who was born as a human in order to take your punishment by being brutally tortured and executed on a cross. That's how much He loves you! Then God raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus has paid the price for your sins, but you must accept His sacrifice in your place.

No other religious leader ever died for your sins, so no other religion can save you. You can accept Jesus' payment in your place so that you will go to heaven, or you can pay for your sins yourself, forever, in a place called hell.

The way to accept Jesus' payment in your place is by faith. Whisper a prayer to ask God to forgive you, such as:

"God, I know that I have sinned against You! In Jesus' Name I ask You to forgive all of my sins. I now turn away from my sinful past, and in faith I turn to the living Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I accept Jesus' death on the cross in my place, and I confess that His blood has paid for all of my sins. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and make me the person that You want me to be. Thank You! In Jesus' Name, amen."

If you prayed this sincerely then you are now a Christian and you will go to heaven when you die! (Not because of a prayer, but because of your faith in Jesus as your Savior). God has forgiven all of your past sins! Sometimes you will sin, but you will still be 100% righteous by faith in Jesus. When you sin, ask God for forgiveness and He will forgive you! Ask Him to show you the right church. Talk to the church leaders about what to do next (getting baptized and obeying the Great Commission, for example). Read the Bible every day so that God can reveal spiritual truths to you (start with the books called "John" and "Acts").

Need Prayer?

Check this out: The Bible says, "You do not have, because you do not ask."

Wow! Prayer is important!

The Bible also says, "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."

Wow! Prayer is powerful and effective, and please call the phone numbers on the other side whenever you need prayer.

Ever wonder if life has a meaning or a purpose? Got questions about God or the Bible? Got questions about that "empty" feeling deep down inside of you? Want to be sure that you will go to heaven? Please email the websites on the other side whenever you have questions, prayer needs, etc.

Did you know that God sees every single crime that we commit against Him? Every time we reject Him. Every time we use His Name improperly. Every time we lie. Every time we steal something. Every time we cheat. Every time we have sex outside of marriage. We have never gotten away with anything! He sees it all. There's not a person alive who deserves to go to heaven. I have a sin nature, and you have a sin nature, and God won't allow any sin into heaven.

You might think that God is unfair, but God is not the guilty one. We are the guilty ones. All of us have broken His laws and deserve to stand guilty before Him on Judgment Day. But He is willing to forgive us!

Check Out the Ten Commandments!

Are the Ten Commandments important? Maybe you don't think so. But what does God think about them? There must be a reason why He made them, right?

Check if you have broken any of God's laws:

  1. Ever made anything (such as money) a higher priority in your life than God is? If so, you broke the First Commandment.
  2. Ever had "excessive devotion" (i.e. idolatry) towards something or someone other than God? If so, you broke the Second Commandment. For example, the Bible says that greed is idolatry.
  3. Ever used the word "God" or "Jesus" or "Christ" as a curse word? If so, you broke the Third Commandment.
  4. If you haven't been setting aside a day of rest every week then you've broken the Fourth Commandment.
  5. Ever dishonored your parents? If so, you broke the Fifth Commandment.
  6. Ever murdered anyone? If so, you broke the Sixth Commandment. The Bible says that having hate in your heart is the same as committing murder!
  7. Ever committed adultery? If so, you broke the Seventh Commandment. The Bible says that looking at someone lustfully is the same as committing adultery in your heart!
  8. Ever stolen or "borrowed" anything and not returned it, no matter how small? If so, you broke the Eighth Commandment.
  9. Ever told a lie, even if it was a "little white lie"? If so, you broke the Ninth Commandment.
  10. Ever felt envy or jealousy because of things that other people have? If so, you broke the Tenth Commandment.

Consider that if someone is found guilty of murder, he can get the death penalty. Just one crime can send a person to death, even if that crime happened many, many years ago!

Now, didn't you admit to breaking some of the Ten Commandments, no matter how long ago it was? Then on the Day of Judgment, will you be "innocent" or "guilty" of those crimes against God?

Let's face it, you will be guilty on that day, right? Therefore, you deserve punishment for your sins. We all do.

Are You "Good Enough"?

Imagine that a guy murders your spouse or your child or your parent, and you go to court to see him get the death penalty. You want justice! The murderer admits that he's guilty, but he says that his good deeds should outweigh his bad deeds because he's really a good person. Then you watch in shock as the judge lets him go free! What kind of lousy judge is that? Where's the justice?

So what kind of Judge would God be if He lets you go free just because you say that you're a "good person"? After all, you know that you have committed crimes against Him by breaking His laws!

God will never allow any sin (or sinners) into heaven, and you have admitted that you have sinned against His laws. Can you see that you have no ability to get into heaven after you die?

All of us understand about crime and punishment, so can you see that your crimes against God require that you be punished? Therefore, you have no ability to escape being sent to hell, unless there is someone who is willing to take the punishment for your sins in your place.

Who Loves You Enough To Take Your Punishment?

Jesus is the Son of God who was born as a human in order to take your punishment by being brutally tortured and executed on a cross. That's how much He loves you! Then God raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus has paid the price for your sins, but you must accept His sacrifice in your place.

Who Is Allowed Into Your House?

Are there any kinds of people that you would not allow to come into your house and live with you? Would you invite a serial killer to come stay with you? Think about that for a moment. If he has done lots of "good deeds," you still wouldn't let him into your house! If you have kids, would you invite a child-molester to come live with you?

It would be against your nature to let certain people come live with you, right? You would probably want them locked away forever!

"Sin" is anything which is against the nature of God. God is not going to let certain people come live with Him in heaven because their sins are against His nature, such as lying, stealing, premarital sex, adultery, murder, rejecting God, and so on. People who have done any such things will be locked away forever in anguish and torment after they die because God hates ALL sins.

The problem is that we have all done some of those things! If God had a file on each of us, our files would be crammed with the sins that we have committed during our lives! We think that murder is a "worse" crime than telling a small lie, but God hates all sins equally! Therefore, God cannot and will not allow any of us into His "house" because all of the sins in our file are against His nature.

The good news is that God has provided a way for you to be forgiven of your sins so that you can be allowed into heaven. Jesus is the Son of God who was born as a human in order to take your punishment by being brutally tortured and executed on a cross. That's how much He loves you! Then God raised Jesus from the dead.
