Do You Believe What the Bible Says?

Many years ago, God rocked my Christian world. He showed me that I didn't really believe what the Bible says about certain things because I didn't know what the Bible says about those things! Sure, I had absorbed various opinions and biases and views from family, friends, and church, just like everyone else has. But think about it for a moment. The people that we absorbed our views from, do they really understand what the Bible says about those things? Maybe not!

Notice that in order to see the full picture of a jigsaw puzzle, we need to use all of the puzzle pieces and fit them together properly. Similarly, if we want to see the full picture of a doctrine in the Bible then we should find as many pieces of Scripture as possible for that doctrine, and we should fit them together properly.

After God showed me these things, this caused me to begin studying the Bible differently. Now I pick a topic and search the Bible, looking for as many relevant passages as possible in order to see the full picture. By trying to be prayerful, honest, thorough, and objective, I realized that I needed to discard many of my preconceived views because the Scriptural evidence simply does not support those views. Being thorough means that my articles tend to be rather long, but being thorough and listening closely to the Holy Spirit enables us to be more accurate than if we just base our views on a few passages.

About the Name

In 1995 God told me to create this online ministry. He made it possible for me to put my original articles on the Internet for free.

A couple of years later He prompted me to get my own domain name, so I asked what the name should be. The answer I got was "Layhands.com."

Perhaps this name indicates that laying hands on the sick will become a larger part of my ministry. Even though I do lay hands on people sometimes, and I do see healings, God hasn't made healing a large part of my ministry.

I believe that I have been in a "season of preparation" since the summer of 1999. I don't know all of the details but in addition to maintaining Layhands.com, the new thing He's preparing me for will involve a new location, new relationships, and a new area of ministry.

May the Lord abundantly bless you as you study His Word!

In His Love,
Dave Root
